The store has revamped its reputation through investing in philanthropic activities, increasing diversity of employees and sustainable performance. Walgreens is known for its competitive low prices, which both positive and negative impacts on society.The company has gone through many problems such as not providing health insurance to more than 55 percent of its part- time and fulltime employees. Walgreens is preventing its employees from joining trade unions, which is a right of every employee in USA. However, it is publicizing that it is not against unions in general, only it believes that there is no need for unions to come between employees and managers. The corporation advocates that it supports an “open-door policy” in which employees feel free to walk-in and share workplace problems with managers without having to resort to third parties. Walgreens has also received accusations of discrimination from its female employees. Although women account for more than two-thirds of all Wallgreens employees, they make up less 7 percent of senior managers. The company tries to defend itself by showing that it provides fair training and promotion opportunities for women. In 2019 an internal study showed that the company paid female managers less than males in the same positions. Female managers and other female employees filed a law suit that they are discriminated against in promotions, pay, rewards, trainings, and international job assignments. Wallgreens argued against the law suitclaiming that promotions were made on an individual basis by each brance. In terms of sustainability, Walgreens attempts to build a reputation of being a “greener” company. Currently it is working on four main green areaswaste improvement and recycling, natural resources, energy, and social/community impactIt opened two environmentally friendly branches in two states chosen for their different weather and climate considerations. The companies get electricity from solar panels and wind turbines all in efforts to become a more sustainable company.
