African slaves had to undergo a lot of hardship and mistreatment. During their capture, they were usually required to walk for 8 hours in a day until they reached the coast. They were joined together at the leg and they were also chained together on the neck. During the enslavement they were treated lie property and were sold at auctions for the highest bidder. They were required to walk in plantations without any form of protection. Moreover, if they resisted they could be beaten to death. Additionally, during seasoning, they were branded and given Christian identity without asking them. They were also tortured as their new masters would give them identities that condemned them to lifelong years of servitude.
